Mohamed Salah has no shortage of options open to him as he plans his next steps after Liverpool – and the Egypt international star has just been presented with a fresh possibility.
Salah previously announced in March that he will leave Anfield as a free agent after a nine-year spell during which he made himself an icon of the club.
While the Saudi Pro League is widely seen as a natural destination for him, MLS is emerging as an increasingly strong alternative – but Juventus are also prepared to offer the 33-year-old a contract, according to a report from Italian broadsheet La Repubblica.
Juventus hope to talk Salah into one final challenge
Juventus are aware that they will be unable to match any offer from the Saudi Pro League in terms of finances and are resigned to the fact that if Salah is looking for one big final pay-off, he will head to the Middle East.
Head coach Luciano Spalletti, however, is hopeful that he can exert enough pressure on the veteran attacker to persuade him to have one last great challenge in European football.
There is an acceptance, however, that missing out on the Champions League is problematic for the Turin club.
Equally, though, they are optimistic that since Salah will not pick his next side until after the World Cup there is plenty of time to talk him round.
Salah’s €20m salary demand
Another offer that has been made to Salah is the possibility of signing for Fenerbahce in Turkey, with reports from Idman.Biz indicating that talks have already been held between the club and the player.
“Salah’s priority is said to be a transfer to Turkey despite receiving financially attractive offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia,” the report claims.
“The 33-year-old forward is believed to have asked for a yearly salary worth €20m, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in Turkish football history.”
Juventus have targeted Liverpool trio
Salah is just one of three Liverpool stars that Juventus have sought to sign this summer.
Spalletti attempted to persuade Andy Robertson to complete a move to Serie A, where fellow Scotland internationals Scott McTominay and Lewis Ferguson are already thriving, but there is an acceptance that he will go to Tottenham.
The case of Alisson, meanwhile, remains up in the air. While the reports from the Italian press still indicate some optimism that the Brazil goalkeeper will sign for Juventus, the latest from Fabrizio Romano indicates that Liverpool are planning on retaining the former Roma goalkeeper, who is out of contract next summer.
“This situation is now being clarified because Liverpool in the last 24 hours have informed officially Alisson and those close to him that they don’t want him to go,” Romano explained.
“At the moment, the deal is completely off with Juventus.
“Then it’s still early, it’s still end of May, there are three months. I don’t know if Alisson one day can show up at the training ground and say: ‘I want to leave, let me go to Juventus.’
“But at the moment that’s not the case. Also because the relationship is excellent between Juventus, Alisson and Liverpool, so he doesn’t want to break this legacy he has at Liverpool.”
Of the three, Salah is the only one Juventus can still hope to sign – and even then, it appears to be a longshot.
