Robin van Persie has been sacked by Feyenoord with the Dutchman shown the door despite finishing second – leaving his boyhood club without winning any silverware
Former Arsenal star Robin van Persie has been sacked as the boss of Feyenoord despite finishing second last season.
The 42-year-old began his managerial career at Feyenoord and was handed his second major role in management by the Rotterdam outfit in February of last year, but has lasted less than two campaigns.
Van Persie did have a contract until 2027 but Feyenoord have decided to change the man in the dugout after finishing a distant second in the Eredivisie table. Come July they were a mammoth 19 points behind runaway winners PSV with inconsistent form hampering their season.

They endured a damaging dip in form around November and December whilst Van Persie was also criticised for clashing with players and constantly tinkering with the team.
New general manager, Robert Eenhoorn, and new technical director, Devy Rigaux, recently arrived at the De Kuip Stadium and said they would take stock of Van Persie’s performance, but have now opted for a change.
Rigaux recently said: “We will take the time to analyse everything that has happened here this past season, so that we also have a picture to make decisions.”
Van Persie was unable to deliver any silverware at Feyenoord, who were knocked out of the Dutch Cup in the second round while they underperformed in the Europa League – winning just two of their eight games, which came after they failed in Champions League qualifying.
Van Persie leaves Feyenoord with a 51 percent win record from his 58 games. Prior to taking charge in Rotterdam the ex-Arsenal attacker had been given the chance to begin his managerial career with Heerenveen, but failed to last the season.
The Dutchman spent eight years at Arsenal – the longest stint of his career. He arrived in north London just after their Invincible campaign and did win the FA Cup earlier in his spell, but otherwise was part of a team that fell short. He was named the PFA Player of the Year whilst at Arsenal, but didn’t claim the league title until he moved to Manchester United.
