The inaugural Nigeria Super League (NSL) has entered a defining stage as the four semi-finalists for the 2026 edition have officially emerged after an intense round of group-stage fixtures.
Northern Lions, Southern Sharks, Middle-Belt Tigers, and Central Eagles will now battle for a place in the grand finale of Nigeria’s premier domestic cricket competition following impressive performances throughout the tournament.
The final semi-final ticket was secured on Monday by Southern Sharks, who produced a commanding display in a rain-shortened rescheduled Match 9 against Eastern Elephants.
In the reduced five-over contest, Southern Sharks posted a daunting 72/1 before restricting Eastern Elephants to 37/5 to seal a comprehensive 35-run victory.
The match belonged to Isaac Danladi, who delivered one of the standout innings of the competition with a blistering unbeaten 51 off just 22 balls.
The explosive knock not only powered the Sharks into the elimination stage but also earned him the record for the fastest fifty in Nigeria Super League history.
Danladi’s aggressive batting completely shifted the momentum in favour of the Sharks, while the bowling attack ensured Eastern Elephants never recovered during the chase.
Northern Lions had earlier become the first side to qualify for the semi-finals after winning all four of their matches, underlining their status as title favourites.
Middle-Belt Tigers and Central Eagles also booked their spots following consistent performances during the group stage.
Attention now turns to the final group-stage fixture between Northern Lions and Middle-Belt Tigers, a clash expected to determine who finishes top of the standings heading into the knockout phase.
The semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday, with the winners advancing to the championship final on Saturday, May 30, where history will be made in the maiden edition of the Nigeria Super League.
The tournament has continued to showcase the rapid growth of cricket in Nigeria, with emerging stars and competitive regional franchises providing excitement throughout the competition.
