Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed that Nigeria’s upcoming clash against Zimbabwe will serve as a major opportunity for both experienced and newly invited players to prove themselves.
Speaking ahead of the Unity Cup encounter, Chelle explained that the tournament remains important for evaluating players and improving the overall balance of the national team.

“The objective is to give players the opportunity to impress,” Chelle said.
According to the Super Eagles coach, both home-based stars from the Nigeria Premier Football League and foreign-based players have equal opportunities to fight for their place in the squad.
“Everybody has a chance to show quality,” he implied.
Chelle also referenced Nigeria’s frustrating draw against Zimbabwe during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Uyo, insisting the team remains determined to improve.
“We still want to win the game,” he noted.
The coach stressed that preparations have progressed positively with the squad already completing several training sessions ahead of the encounter.
“The team has trained well and I expect a good performance,” he added.
Nigeria’s Unity Cup campaign is expected to feature several new faces as Chelle continues rebuilding the Super Eagles ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
“This tournament could shape the future of the squad,” many football observers believe.
The Super Eagles coach remains focused on balancing experimentation with competitiveness as the team searches for consistency again.
“The players must take their chances seriously,” he stressed.
For Chelle, the message is clear.
Competition for places is open.
New players must prove themselves.
And the Super Eagles remain determined to improve while winning matches.
Because successful national teams are built through healthy competition, tactical growth, and strong mentality.
