Arne Slot has been warned that he has yet to feel the worst of Mohamed Salah’s rage, with the Liverpool attacker ready to drop another bombshell on the Reds manager.
Salah has confirmed he will depart the club in the summer, one year before the end of his contract, and he will say goodbye to Liverpool on Sunday along with Andrew Robertson as he plays his final game for the club against Brentford.
His final season, though, has not gone how he would have wished as he has scored a comparatively disappointing 12 goals in 40 matches as the Reds’ challenge for more silverware quickly disappeared.
Salah ‘deeply upset’ by Slot
Salah’s final months at Anfield have most notably been marked by very public tension between the Egypt international and Slot.
This began when Salah was dropped from three successive Premier League matches, prompting him to lash out in an interview following a clash with Leeds.
“I’m very, very disappointed to be fair. I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season,” he complained to the media.
“Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.
“I had a good relationship with the manager but all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why, but it seems to me that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
A break for AFCON helped to temporarily ease the tension, but a recent social media post made by the 33-year-old made clear that the issues with Slot are far from over as he branded Liverpool a “crumbling” club under the current boss.
And now the Dutchman has been given an alarming warning that the worst is still to come.
The Daily Mail reports: “According to sources in Egypt, Salah feels deeply upset by how this has played out. ‘Just you wait until his first interview,’ said one, referring to the fact the player feels he has been harshly treated when considering how much he has given to Liverpool over the last decade.”
Slot vs Salah: A battle that could change everything at Liverpool
Any future revelations by Salah threaten to rock Slot’s vulnerable position to the core. The Dutchman’s popularity at Anfield is at an all-time low, with the sentiment that he is living off the credit gained from last season’s Premier League title success.
This time around, the Reds are struggling to secure a Champions League spot, and during the recent home defeat against Chelsea, Slot’s decision to substitute young winger Rio Ngumoha was greeted by rare jeers around Anfield.
If Liverpool’s most popular player of recent years decides to speak out against him, it promises to further undermine his job security.
The Anfield board has been steadfast in its support of Slot to date and does not appear to have any intention of sacking, but a catastrophic event could quickly tip their feelings in the other direction. Salah is one man with such power to trigger a change of heart.
