Manchester United target Ederson has informed Atalanta that he wants to leave the club during the upcoming summer transfer window ahead of a potential Old Trafford switch.
The 26-year-old has been on Man Utd’s radar for several seasons and reports have indicated that he is open to completing a move to Michael Carrick’s side amid the Red Devils’ pursuit of at least two new central midfielders this summer.
Rumours suggest that Ederson has already agreed personal terms with the 13-time Premier League champions and while several reporters have denied this claim, it appears as though he is certainly on their radar as they look to sign a suitable replacement for the departing Casemiro.
The Brazilian has been one of the best midfielders in Serie A since his move to Atalanta in 2022 and he has made 41 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Ederson over the past few years, although they appear to have moved their focus onto alternative targets, including Sandro Tonali, and they are set to prioritise the signing of a new forward this summer.
Atletico Madrid were previously regarded as the frontrunners to secure Ederson’s signature during the 2026 summer transfer window, but talks have stalled and Diego Simeone’s side are now expected to finalise a deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes instead, leaving the door open for Man Utd.
Confirmed: Man Utd target Ederson wants to leave Atalanta
Ederson has emerged as an alternative option to the likes of Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes, Aurelien Tchouameni and Alex Scott, and he has now said ‘yes’ to an Atalanta exit this summer, as confirmed by football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.
He posted on Instagram: “Ederson informed Atalanta that he will not sign new deal and he plans to leave this summer.
“Manchester United have Ederson as one of the names on their shortlist — aware of his situation and in contact with his camp. United have more names to explore before final decision on 2 midfielders (at least…) to add to their squad this summer.”
“Ederson had an agreement with Atletico Madrid on personal terms but Atleti deal collapsed – as Atalanta ask too much. Request: €45m, current deal expiring in June 2027.”
