Country paying Brits £22,000 to move there but there's a big catch

If someone told you that you could get paid to move to an idyllic Swiss village, surrounded by beautiful scenery, it sounds pretty much like a no-brainer, so what’s stopping you?

Escaping the UK is on a lot of people’s bucket lists, and it turns out some countries are more than happy to welcome you in, so much so that they’re quite literally paying you.

With remote working becoming more common, the window of opportunity to move abroad is becoming more prevalent, and countries are catching on with an offer that’s hard to resist.

Switzerland has a worldwide reputation for its outstanding quality of life, and within it is one tranquil village welcoming Brits for over £22,000. The incentive was set up to account for their declining population and has welcomed people from abroad since 2017.

Albinen is the picturesque village sitting in the canton of Valais, which has recently introduced an incentive scheme in 2017 to address a declining population.

It just so happens to be a beautiful destination which would make it hard for travellers to say no to, with national parks on its doorstep and plenty of breathtaking outdoor spaces.

The village

Albinen sits on a steep slope above the Rhône Valley, which is the perfect location for a load of sweeping views and a peaceful environment. Not to mention, its location calls for a lot of sunshine, 300 days of it.

On its doorstep is the Pfyn-Finges Nature Park, which is made up of vast forests, floodplains and winegrowing villages. It is quite literally a walkers’ paradise with endless routes to explore and immerse yourself in the great outdoors.

Within the village is a load of herbs and medicinal plants, an aspect the area is known for, which are said to provide healing powers. Tours are provided to visitors keen to learn about the plant culture, and they’ll be shocked to know that the majority of them are edible and regularly used by locals.

Many tourists find themselves in the area to indulge in the nearby thermal spas in Leukerbad, as it’s a huge part of the culture in this part of Switzerland. Others pass through the village as they make a trip to see the iconic Matterhorn pyramidal peak in the Swiss mountain range.

The programme

The incentive set up to engage people with the idea of moving to the Swiss village provides adults with CHF 25,000, which roughly equates to approximately £22,000 each. Additionally, they are paying CHF 10,000, around £8,800, per child.

For a family of two adults and one child, this is a total of roughly £52,800.However, of course there are a number of restrictions in place that may be slightly off-putting for those not willing to commit to the big move.

With this impressive offer on the table, it might be time to finally take that big leap and live a peaceful life in the Swiss Mountains, but it’s not a decision that can be made lightly.
