President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Adetayo Soji, has described the 2026 WTT Contender Lagos as one of the biggest table tennis events ever staged in Nigeria.
The tournament, scheduled to hold from May 19 to 24 in Lagos, is expected to attract some of the world’s top-ranked players and elevate Nigeria’s growing reputation within international table tennis.

“This will be one of the biggest events we’ve hosted,” Soji said.
According to the federation president, the competition will feature five players currently ranked inside the world’s top 20 alongside 30 players ranked within the top 100 globally.
“We’re bringing world-class table tennis to Lagos,” he implied.
Soji also confirmed that more than 130 players from 20 different countries will participate in the tournament.
“It’s a truly global event,” he noted.
The competition will also carry a prize purse of $100,000, further increasing its status on the international circuit.
“The stakes are very high,” he added.
The federation boss revealed that Lagos and Tunisia are currently the only African cities hosting WTT Contender events.
“That shows how important this event is for Africa,” he stressed.
Fans have also been promised an exciting week of elite-level competition featuring some of the sport’s biggest names.
“People should expect fireworks in Lagos,” Soji said.
The tournament represents another major step forward for Nigeria’s ambition to become a leading destination for international sports events.
