Former Nigeria international Friday Ekpo has praised the quality of international friendly matches lined up for the Super Eagles while urging head coach Eric Chelle to give invited players meaningful opportunities to impress.
Speaking on Nigeria’s preparations, Ekpo stressed that the friendly games should be used properly to evaluate players and build squad depth ahead of future competitions.

“The players must get proper opportunities,” Ekpo said.
According to the former Super Eagles midfielder, simply inviting players without giving them enough game time defeats the purpose of the exercise.
“You have to allow them express themselves,” he implied.
Ekpo also warned against criticizing players too quickly whenever they make mistakes during their early appearances for the national team.
“The pressure is not easy, especially for first-timers,” he noted.
The former international explained that patience and encouragement are important parts of developing confidence within new players.
“They need support, not immediate criticism,” he added.
Nigeria’s upcoming friendlies are expected to feature several fresh faces as Chelle continues rebuilding the squad.
“This is the right time to test players,” many football observers believe.
Ekpo believes the coaching crew must focus more on learning about the players rather than chasing short-term perfection.
