Nigerian Heritage Defender Chetam Ezenwata Helps Charlton Athletic U18 Win National Title

Young Nigerian heritage defender Chetam Ezenwata played a major role in helping Charlton Athletic U18 secure the Professional Development League national title after a convincing 3-0 victory over Wigan Athletic U18 in the final at The Valley.

The Professional Development League is one of England’s top youth football competitions, structured into Northern and Southern divisions and featuring clubs primarily from the English Football League system, including teams from the Championship, League One, and League Two.

At the conclusion of the regular season, the winners of both regional divisions meet in a national final to determine the overall champion. Charlton Athletic qualified for the final after topping the Southern section, while Wigan Athletic emerged winners of the Northern division, setting up a highly anticipated clash between two of the country’s strongest academy sides.

Ezenwata was one of the standout performers for the “Addicks” throughout the campaign, consistently impressing with his defensive composure, strength, positioning, and maturity beyond his age.
