Liverpool are pressing ahead with plans to sign Bradley Barcola after learning Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to sanction the move if the winger asks to leave the club, according to reports in France.
The Reds have been linked with a number of wide players as they look to secure a replacement for Mohamed Salah, who will bring down the curtain on his legendary Anfield career at the end of the season.
Liverpool are believed to have ran the rule over RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande, according to The Athletic, while French publication L’Equipe claims Monaco ace Maghnes Akliouche is also on their shortlist.
However, following an earlier report from The i Paper which claimed Liverpool were also considering PSG forward Barcola, French outlet Le Sport 10 understands the club have now received a positive update from the Champions League finalists.
Le Sport 10 claims Arne Slot’s side are now aware that the 23-year-old will be allowed to leave PSG if he expresses a desire to move on at the end of the season.
The same outlet also understands Barcola, who is contracted to PSG until the summer of 2028, is interested in the idea of joining Liverpool provided he would be one of the first names on the team sheet.
Barcola emerged through Lyon’s famed youth academy in 2021 and quickly became one of Ligue 1’s most promising young stars, scoring seven goals in 31 appearances in 2022-23.
The attacker joined Luis Enrique’s PSG for €45million (£39.2m) in August 2023 and helped the club win the treble – including their maiden Champions League crown – last season, scoring 21 goals in 64 appearances.
However, while Barcola has made 47 appearances this term, 11 of them have been as substitute and he has only completed 90 minutes once – against Lorient on 2 May – since playing the full duration against Monaco on 6 March.
Barcola will be hoping to feature in PSG’s final two games of the season when they travel to Paris FC in their last Ligue 1 fixture today, before locking horns with Arsenal in the Champions League final on Saturday, 30 May.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are facing a battle to secure their place in Europe’s premier club competition for next season ahead of their final Premier League fixture against Brentford at Anfield on Sunday, 24 May.
Slot’s men are currently fifth in the table and four points ahead of Bournemouth, though the Cherries have a game in hand against Manchester City next Tuesday before travelling to Nottingham Forest on the last day of the season.
Salah urges Liverpool to return to “heavy metal” football
In the aftermath of Liverpool’s 4-2 loss against Aston Villa on Friday, their 19th defeat of the campaign, Salah said the club must return to being a “heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear” after “crumbling” to another reverse.
In a post on social media, the Egypt forward – who has had a strained relationship with manager Slot this season – wrote: “I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that.
“Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies.
“That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it.”
