Michael Carrick has confirmed that there will be ‘clarity’ over his Manchester United future in the coming days after bidding farewell to two players in the win over Nottingham Forest.
United emerged 3-2 winners at Old Trafford in their final home game of the campaign, with Bruno Fernandes grabbing his 20th assist of the season to equal the Premier League record.
Carrick also gave a speech on the pitch to United supporters and, while he didn’t confirm reports that he is set to be handed the manager’s job on a full-time basis, the 44-year-old told media after the match to expect updates in the coming days.
“I think it was a case that today was important about the game and getting the right result, and some individuals as well shining, so whatever the news is going to be, I’m sure you’ll get clarity in a few days,” Carrick said.
“We were really conscious of trying to finish on a bit of a high. We’ve made some really good strides as a team and as a club.
“It’s easy to get to this stage and, being part of it myself, that extra spark’s not there, so I think to finish like we did for so many reasons was a good day for us.”

The win also saw United formally announce the departure of Tyrell Malacia, who will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season.

The left-back was honoured by teammates and supporters after the match, with Carrick telling fans to show their appreciation for Malacia after his four years of service.
Malacia has only played seven minutes of football this season and has fallen out of favour after struggling with injuries since his first year at the club, prompting his exit.
United fans also paid tribute to Casemiro, who was playing his last home game for the club before he also leaves in the summer when his contract expired.
The Brazilian was subbed off to a standing ovation in the 81st minute, having confirmed in recent week that he would not reverse his decision to leave despite an uptick in form.
