Manchester United are one of four Premier League clubs who have made a “discreet enquiry” to understand the possibility of signing Neco Williams this summer.

The Nottingham Forest full-back has been one of the club’s standout performers so far this season and his form has attracted interest from several English top flight rivals, as per a report from BBC Sport reporter Sami Mokbel.

It’s claimed that Aston Villa, Everton, Man Utd and Newcastle United have all made “discreet enquiries” about the 25-year-old as they look to pursue a deal during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Williams still has three years remaining on his current deal at the City Ground, having penned fresh terms last July, but Vitor Pereira’s side have reportedly opened talks with the Wales international over a contract extension ahead of this summer.

It’s understood that Forest have no intention of allowing Williams to depart before the start of next season, with the club hopeful that rumours of an exit will end if they lodge a formal contract offer.

Williams, who joined Forest for a fee of €20 million from Liverpool back in 2022, has scored two goals and provided three assists in 35 Premier League appearances so far this campaign.

Verdict: Why Neco Williams would be an excellent signing for Man Utd

While Williams only has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €24.7m and isn’t widely regarded as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, data analytics experts SciSports believe this perception is wrong.

As per their SciSkill model, the Wales international would become Man Utd’s fifth-best player if he joins the club this summer, with Williams rated as currently better than the likes of Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo.

He is also regarded as a better full-back than Valentino Livramento, Nico O’Reilly, Milos Kerkez, Malo Gusto, Marc Cucurella and Pedro Porro, all of whom have far superior reputations.

Williams would therefore be a shrewd signing by Man Utd if they are able to tempt Forest into a sale, although it seems highly unlikely as things stand.
