Bournemouth have officially announced that Marcos Senesi will depart the club as a free agent this summer, and Manchester United’s interest in the defender has been confirmed by a reliable source.
The Argentina international will leave the Cherries after four hugely successful years at the club. Senesi arrived for €15 million from Feyenoord in 2022 and developed into a standout performer in the Premier League.
This term, Senesi has taken his game to another level. According to data analytics firm SciSports, he has statistically been the best centre-back in the English top flight. His passing, in particular, is nothing short of sensational for a central defender.
He is the runaway leader in the league’s overall passing statistics for his position. More specifically, the 29-year-old leads the league in long passes, direct passes and passes into the final third. He is an elite front-footed defender.
Naturally, his exploits, combined with his availability, have made him one of the most in-demand players in the Premier League. Interestingly, Senesi already has an agreement on personal terms with Tottenham, but this is only valid if they remain in the division.
Man Utd show Senesi interest
With two games to play and Spurs not entirely out of the woods just yet, Senesi’s move to North London remains in doubt. As a result, other clubs are also making approaches.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Man Utd have shown an interest in the Argentine, though it appears unclear whether they will actually act on their interest.
Recent reports have suggested that the Red Devils will only sign a centre-back if fitness concerns over Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez persist. The former hasn’t played since November due to a “mystery” back injury, but he is training with the squad.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have also expressed a genuine interest in Senesi. However, they are undecided on making a move due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation.
It was thought that a breakthrough in negotiations was imminent, but David Ornstein provided a concerning update earlier this week, insisting that discussions between the two parties remain at an impasse.
