The latest on the injury to Estevao Willian with the Chelsea winger missing the World Cup after suffering a grade four hamstring problem last month
Despite reports circulating from Brazil, sources have told football.london there is no disagreement between Chelsea and Estevao Willian over whether or not the winger requires surgery on his grade four hamstring injury.
The Blues winger suffered a serious hamstring issue in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last month, meaning he will miss the remainder of the season, as well as this summer’s World Cup. Reports from Estevao’s homeland claimed Chelsea wanted the 19-year-old to have surgery on the problem, but the player’s camp disagreed on the matter.
However, such speculation has been described as false by sources. As with all injuries of this magnitude, the prospect of surgery has been discussed, but there has been no operation yet – and at the time of writing, there are no plans in place for that to change.

There is an agreed plan between Chelsea and Estevao for his rehabilitation, with the Brazilian teenager spending some time back in South America.
Estevao arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer after Chelsea agreed a £29million (plus more than £20m in potential add-ons) with Palmeiras 12 months prior. Since being with the Blues squad, Estevao has adapted seamlessly to life in English football – scoring eight goals and providing four assists in his first 36 appearances for the Blues in all competitions.
However, interim head coach Calum McFarlane will be unable to call upon Estevao for the remaining three matches of the campaign. No timeframe has yet been put on when the Brazil international will return to action.
