US Assistant Defence Secretary for Financial Affairs Jules Hurst III said the cost of the US-Israeli war on Iran has so far reached about $29 billion, an increase of $4 billion from estimates announced in late April.
Hurst made the remarks on Tuesday during a hearing held by the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defence to discuss the Pentagon’s standard budget request for the 2027 fiscal year. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine attended the session.
Asked by members of the House of Representatives about the impact of the war on the Pentagon budget since the United States joined Israel in military operations against Iran, Hurst said the figure had “reached about $29 billion”.
Hegseth said the United States had plans for further escalation, if necessary, as well as plans for withdrawal and repositioning of military assets, referring to Washington’s options for maintaining or reducing its military presence in the region.
