The 2026 edition of the COLBIOS Dean’s Cup delivered a thrilling showcase of football, unity, and campus spirit as the Department of Biochemistry (BCH) emerged champions after a tense penalty shootout victory over Pure and Applied Botany (PAB) at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.
With the theme “COLBIOS Excellentia” resonating throughout the competition, the tournament once again highlighted the College of Biosciences’ commitment to excellence beyond academics, promoting sportsmanship, student engagement, and healthy rivalry among departments.

The football fiesta featured four departments within the College — Department of Biochemistry, Department of Pure and Applied Botany, Department of Pure and Applied Zoology, and Department of Microbiology — all battling for supremacy in one of the most competitive editions of the tournament.
The final day of the competition, held on May 6, 2026, began with the third-place match between Microbiology and Pure and Applied Zoology (PAZ). After an intense contest, PAZ secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory to claim third place.
Attention quickly shifted to the grand finale between PAB and BCH, a clash that drew massive support from students, lecturers, and members of the College Academic Board. The atmosphere around the venue was electric as both sides delivered a tactical and highly entertaining encounter.
Among dignitaries present were the Dean of COLBIOS, Iyabode Kehinde; Deputy Dean, Regina Ugbaja; Director of SIWES, Oluwatoyin Afolabi; alongside several Heads of Department and academic staff members.
After 90 minutes of intense football ended goalless, the title was decided through penalties. BCH, led by Head of Department Adio Akamo, held their composure to secure a dramatic 5-4 shootout victory, sparking jubilant celebrations among players and supporters.
The tournament concluded with commendations for organizers, including Wasiu Abibu and Oduroye Daniel, whose efforts contributed to the success of the competition.
Beyond the football action, the 2026 COLBIOS Dean’s Cup stood as a celebration of unity, teamwork, and the enduring spirit of “COLBIOS Excellentia.”
