Klopp: Iraola Needs Luck To Be Successful At Liverpool

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has backed Andoni Iraola to succeed at Anfield but admitted the newly appointed Red boss will need some good fortune along the way.

Speaking on the managerial transition, Klopp noted that for a project of this scale to work long-term, everything has to click, and luck is required to sustain success.

He urged fans to remain calm and allow the squad to adapt, acknowledging that every drastic managerial change brings expected teething issues.

“I’m not close enough to judge that (what happened with Slot’s exit). I was super happy they won the league a year before and I have no idea what was wrong last season,” Klopp told ESPN.

“Nobody was happy with the season. That was obvious, but they still qualified for the Champions League and that’s a great success. Now you can go again with a new manager in Andoni Iraola, who is a great coach as well, just like Arne Slot is, but it has to click.

“It has to work together for a long time, and for that, you need luck. Last season is now over and they can look to the future.”

Iraola’s tenure at AFC Bournemouth was a massive success, culminating in a historic 6th-place finish and Europa League qualification in the 2025/26 season.
