Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s father and agent has addressed claims that the Argentina star could leave Anfield this season.

Mac Allister has been linked with a shock exit from the Premier League champions, with Real Madrid linked with a potential swoop for the player.

The Telegraph reported last month that the 27-year-old is privately open to make a move to Spain, claiming that he is a “surprise” name on the list of potential departures from Arne Slot’s side in the summer.

It adds: “It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Alexis Mac Allister leaves Liverpool this summer to finance the next phase of the rebuild.

“The midfielder has two years left on his deal, there have been no renewal talks and his form has dipped. Clubs in Europe are interested.”

Mac Allister not in transfer talks

Mac Allister’s father has spoken out amid this speculation, denying that the player is actively seeking a move away from Anfield.

Speaking to UAE outlet WinWin, he explained: “Alexis has a valid contract until June 2028 and so far we are not speaking publicly with any other club.

“We believe that the club’s fans deserve this level of respect from the player, and so far the club has not negotiated with us to renew the contract.”

Liverpool unlikely to sanction Mac Allister sale

Mac Allister’s sale represents a potentially lucrative opportunity for Liverpool, with the former Brighton star commanding an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €105m.

This makes him the 17th most-valuable player in the world, and the Reds’ third-most valuable star behind Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool are unlikely to allow another first-team starter and dressing room leader to leave, particularly in an area where they have lacked strength in depth this season.

It promises to be a summer of massive upheaval at Anfield. Mohamed Salah has already confirmed he will depart on a free transfer along with veteran left-back Andrew Robertson, while Ibrahima Konate is out of contract at the end of the season, leaving his future uncertain. Alisson is close to joining Juventus.

Mac Allister, meanwhile, still has a couple of years left to run on his Anfield deal. This means that Liverpool are under no immediate obligation to sell this summer. Instead, they can reassess his contract in 12 months’ time. At that point, allowing the midfielder to depart becomes a more realistic prospect, albeit for a lesser fee.

Similarly, the mayhem that has ensued at Real Madrid, with the complete lack of discipline in the Bernabeu squad that has left Federico Valverde with a ‘traumatic brain injury’ following an alleged clash with Aurelien Tchouameni, may have changed Mac Allister’s stance over a move.

As such, it would be a surprise if Mac Allister were allowed to leave Liverpool imminently.
