Arsenal latest: Martin Keown hits out at ‘insult’ as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia fires warning

Martin Keown has addressed “insulting” comments towards Arsenal

Arsenal are four wins away from clinching a league and European cup double for the first time in the club’s history. Tuesday night saw Mikel Arteta’s side fight hard to claim a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final clash.

They secured a 2-1 aggregate win in front of their home supporters, reaching the final of Europe’s elite club competition for the first time since 2006, in what marked the greatest occasion the Emirates Stadium has hosted since opening that same year.

The Gunners face a formidable challenge in facing reigning champions PSG in the final on May 30. However, they will first concentrate on the Premier League, where they have the opportunity to seal a first domestic title since the Invincibles triumph of 2003/04.

Their three game run of league fixtures begins with West Ham away this Sunday afternoon. football.london now examines two of the biggest developments concerning Arsenal ahead of the most crucial weeks in their modern history.

Kvaratskhelia sends message

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has spoken candidly about the challenging task PSG face as they prepare for their Champions League final meeting with Arsenal. The Georgian has emerged as the competition’s standout performer, firing the Parisians to the final with two goals in the first leg against Bayern Munich and an assist in the second leg.

Kvaratskhelia has contributed 18 goals and ten assists across 44 appearances this season, including a remarkable 10 goals and six assists in Europe alone. However, the talismanic winger remains conscious of the threat the north Londoners present.

He said: “Very happy we’re in the final. We know it will be difficult against Arsenal. Bayern is one of the best teams right now. It was very difficult. The hardest one in the season. We showed we can play against these teams. I will give everything for this badge.”

Keown blasts ‘insulting’ claim

Martin Keown has labelled accusations of Arsenal bottling trophies as “insulting”. eSPORTY presenter Jim White questioned the Arsenal legend on whether he’ll be serving humble pie to all the Gunners’ doubters come the season’s end.

The former defender said: “I don’t really care. This is the first season with Arteta that I’ve said we can really win the league. We still haven’t done that and with Pep in the building, we’re up against it.

“I’ve bristled at the bottling claim, it’s insulting. I’ve heard Simon Jordan use the word and about perpetuity and it being around forever, but it [bottling] certainly wasn’t around in my day.

“And if they go on and win the league and the Champions League, or even take just one of those trophies, I don’t think that can be said about this group ever again.”
