Manchester City are set to break the British transfer record with the signing of Elliot Anderson after agreeing a deal with Nottingham Forest for the England star.
Anderson has been City’s top target to strengthen in midfield, with the 23-year-old giving his preference to move to the Etihad over joining rivals Manchester United, even with the departure of Pep Guardiola.
Forest had previously rejected at least one formal offer from City and the two sides had been in negotiations in recent weeks before eventually agreeing terms, as first reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The deal is believed to be worth £130 million (€150.8m), eclipsing the £125m (€145m) that Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak from Newcastle last summer.
Negotiations had prolonged due to Nottingham Forest’s insistence that any fee broke the British transfer record, while there was also believed to be a delay over the amount paid up front and the terms of bonuses.
Anderson has now been given permission to undergo a medical in New York on Friday, where he is playing at the 2026 World Cup with England, ahead of completing a deal and finalising personal terms.
Anderson set for Man City move after long pursuit
Anderson had established himself as one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League since joining Forest from Newcastle in 2024 for a fee of €41.2m.
The youngster had drawn praise for his complete skillset in midfield and received his first England cap last September, eventually going on to feature 11 times for his country, including in both games so far at the World Cup.
City had made an offer earlier this month, believed to be worth £106m (€123.6m), rising to £120m (€139.3m) which was rejected by Forest, while another verbal offer was also turned down.
The Premier League runners up had made the signing of a midfielder a priority after the departure of Bernardo Silva on a free transfer and they will now break the British transfer record for the second time, having previously done it with the £100m (€117.5m) signing of Jack Grealish in 2021.
