A shopping centre engulfed in a huge fire has killed at least eight people and injured 40 others in Iran. The raging interno erupted in the Arghavan shopping centre in Andisheh town, Tehran.
According to the local fire department, flammable cladding on the building caused the flames to spread quickly, with authorities having launched a probe into the tragedy. Panicked bystanders were seen gathered outside the building as the fire raged on. There is no evidence that the incident was connected to the ongoing conflict in Iran, which began after a joint US‑Israeli strike on the country on February 28.
The fire occurred after US military officials reiterated that a ceasefire between the two countries was still in place despite recent clashes in the Strait of Hormuz.
The fragile truce, agreed nearly a month ago, faced renewed strain when Iran was accused of attacking a major oil refinery in the UAE on Monday, injuring three Indian workers.
The UAE said Iran had launched “a barrage” of missiles and drones at the port in the eastern emirate of Fujairah.
