Arsenal have been issued a warning in their reported pursuits of Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, with Newcastle United keen to avoid a repeat of the saga which led to Alexander Isak’s exit last summer.
The Gunners are believed to hold a genuine interest in all three players, according to BBC Sport, with the Magpies bracing themselves for offers in the summer transfer window, which opens on Monday, 15 June.
FootballTransfers reporter Steve Kay understands Arsenal have already opened discussions with the representatives of Livramento, who has impressed the north Londoners with his ability to play as both a right-back and a left-back.
Meanwhile, England international Gordon is also attracting interest from Bayern Munich, as per The Times, while Tonali has been tentatively linked with Manchester United ahead of their planned midfield revamp.
However, according to The i Paper, Newcastle have made it clear that they want “quick resolutions” to Livramento, Tonali and Gordon’s futures, with the club ruling out a repeat of Isak’s acrimonious departure to Liverpool on transfer deadline day last September.
In order to force through his €145million (£125m) British record transfer to Liverpool, Isak famously went on strike last summer as Newcastle struggled to source an adequate replacement for the Sweden international.
After missing out on Liam Delap and Hugo Ekitike to Chelsea and Liverpool respectively, Eddie Howe’s side eventually signed Yoane Wissa from Brentford and Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart to fill the void left by Isak.
But in what has been a disappointing Premier League campaign for Newcastle, with the club currently 13th in the table, Wissa and Woltemade – who arrived for an initial combined fee of €133m (£115m) – have struggled to settle at St. James’ Park.
While it remains up in the air as to whether Woltemade will remain at Newcastle beyond this season, The Athletic are reporting that the club are open to selling Wissa this summer, with the striker having scored just three goals in an injury-hit campaign.
Woltemade, on the other hand, has netted 10 times in 48 appearances in all competitions this season, with the Germany international without a goal since scoring against Aston Villa in the FA Cup in February.
As speculation continues to swirl surrounding Livramento, Tonali and Gordon’s futures, Newcastle are looking to make it back-to-back Premier League wins when they travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Howe’s side secured a morale-boosting 3-1 victory over European-chasing Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend, with Tonali starting in midfield while Gordon remained an unused substitute. Defender Livramento is currently sidelined due to injury.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are looking to move a step closer to winning their first Premier League title for 22 years when they head to relegation-threatened West Ham United on Sunday.
Analysis: Newcastle aiming to be better-prepared ahead of busy summer
After a testing summer transfer window ahead of the 2025-26 season, Newcastle look to be better-equipped this time around ahead of what is expected to be another busy period of transfer activity.
As Isak pushed to join Liverpool, Newcastle’s task to replace him was made all the more harder by the fact that manager Howe was working without a sporting director in situ at the time.
It wasn’t until 11 October last year – a month after last summer’s transfer window closed – that Ross Wilson was officially named as Newcastle’s sporting director, replacing Paul Mitchell who departed at the end of the 2024-25 season.
However, according to The i Paper, Wilson and Howe are believed to have forged a strong relationship behind the scenes, meaning the club are confident they will avoid seeing sagas play out regarding Livramento, Tonali and Gordon.
