Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association, Chikelue Iloenyosi, has praised the sweeping reforms introduced by Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, describing them as a turning point for sports development in the state.
In a strongly worded appreciation message issued on behalf of the Anambra football community and sports stakeholders, Iloenyosi commended the governor’s decision to merge the Anambra State Sports Development Commission with the Ministry of Youth Development, a move he said has restored structure, direction, and hope to the sector.

According to him, sports administration in the state had previously suffered from serious operational setbacks that negatively affected football development and access to facilities.
“Before this intervention, sports in Anambra State—especially football—was at risk of decline due to administrative inefficiencies that stifled progress,” Iloenyosi stated.
He revealed that clubs and stakeholders struggled with limited access to public sports infrastructure, particularly the Awka City Stadium, where high operational costs reportedly discouraged investment and grassroots activities.
Iloenyosi cited the case of Solution FC, explaining that the club nearly lost its Nigeria National League slot before intervention from the Anambra FA leadership helped recover it from Jos.
“Even critical stakeholders like ANSFA faced difficulties accessing facilities. This weakened the growth of clubs and placed Anambra behind neighboring states,” he added.
The former Super Eagles defender also applauded the appointment of Patrick Aghamba as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, noting that his leadership has already improved collaboration between government and sports bodies.
“There is now renewed confidence among stakeholders. The atmosphere is more inclusive, coordinated, and progressive,” Iloenyosi said.
He further described the reforms as evidence of Governor Soludo’s commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable sports development.
“Your actions have laid the foundation for a more functional and accessible sports system in Anambra State,” the statement read.
Iloenyosi concluded by assuring the governor of the full support of the football community in driving the vision forward.
With the reforms already generating positive reactions, many stakeholders believe Anambra could be entering a new era—one focused on rebuilding infrastructure, strengthening grassroots football, and restoring the state’s sporting reputation.
