Remo Stars FC of Ikenne chairman, Honourable Kunle Soname has come out with an explanation of why he decided to throw his club’s home ground open as host of this year’s Nigerian National League (NNL) Super-4.
Sports247 reports that Soname was speaking against the backdrop of Monday’s opening duo of matches at the ultra-modern edifice in the serene town, where a large array of Nigerian personalities and ex-footballers gathered.

The competition continues on Wednesday and hits a climax this Friday, with two games on each match day, after which the championship will get N10m, which Soname believes will further highlight the rich quality of Nigerian football.
He disclosed that his passion for the round leather game and desire to see it grow massively in Nigeria motivated him to put forward his stadium as host of this year’s competition, which will determine the second-tier league’s overall champion for this season.
He then took a look at the presence of Doma United of Gombe, Ranchers Bees of Bauchi as well as Inter Lagos and Sporting Lagos at the Super-4, which he said is a good representation for the exponents of private-owned clubs in Nigeria.
While also hailing the NNL board for a job well done, Soname stated, “My decision to host the tournament is my own little way of contributing to the development of the country’s football. I also want to say that this is the best organised league I have witnessed in the country.
“It’s a thing of joy that its transparency led to four privately-owned teams gaining promotion. This is what we have been advocating for. We need private ownership of clubs in Nigeria, and I look forward to more well-prganised leagues in future.”
