Real Madrid and Brazil forward Endrick has broken his silence on his future amid claims that Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring his situation.
Endrick has spent the second half of the season on loan at Lyon and on Sunday bagged his fifth Ligue 1 goal for OL as they defeated Rennes 4-2 in a critical match for Champions League qualification.
Los Blancos are widely reported to want him back at the Bernabeu next term, but the 19-year-old has revealed that he has other plans.
Endrick: I’d really like to stay in Lyon
Endrick’s form in France has been eye-catching enough to lead to claims that both Arsenal and Chelsea are tracking his progress, but the Premier League giants are both set to be disappointed by the Brazil star, who is open to another loan spell with Lyon.
“I’m very happy here, I feel great,” Endrick told the media.
“Will I stay? I’m on loan, I’m happy with my teammates, everything is going very well. After that, you never know what might happen, we’ll see.
“I’m leaving it all in God’s hands and we’ll see what happens. If I have to stay in Madrid, I’ll stay in Madrid; if I have to renew my contract here, I’ll renew it here. I’d really like to stay; they’re doing everything they can to make sure I’m in the best possible situation.”
Endrick in Lyon
Endrick’s stint in France has been irregular. Despite chipping in with regular decisive contributions, his overall level has appeared mixed, though SciSports rate him as the top-performing centre-forward in Ligue 1 this season.
The data analytics firm would, however, warn that this rating should be taken with a pinch of salt as he has not played the 900 minutes it considers to produce an entirely accurate result.
Certainly, his chances of remaining in France have been significantly boosted by the prospect of Lyon gaining Champions League football.
OL could use a player with Endrick’s attributes as they return to that stage, and given the regular first-team football they will be able to offer the youngster, Real Madrid may see the prospect of renewing this deal as something that can be mutually beneficial for all parties.
Petit calls for Arsenal to sign Endrick
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has said that Arsenal should be doing everything they can to sign Endrick, who he believes can be refined into an outstanding player.
“Endrick is so young, only 19. He’s incredibly talented, very gifted, but he’s like a wild horse with so much energy,” the 1998 World Cup winner told Goal.
“On the pitch, he’s sometimes a bit too selfish. But at the same time, he knows he has enormous potential. He needs to be in the right environment to improve and develop because this kid is a diamond.
“What kind of club would suit him perfectly? Given his qualities, I’d love for him to come to Arsenal.”
Given Endrick’s latest statement, Arsenal are unlikely to get him, with Lyon firmly in pole position for another loan if Real Madrid decide to let him go at all.
