Marcus Rashford continues to seek to find a route to securing a permanent move to Barcelona, and the Manchester United attacker may just have found ‘another way’ to completing the transfer.

Rashford moved to Barca last summer amid a fallout with former Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim. In the loan agreement that was struck, the Catalan side agreed a €30 million purchase clause.

Despite the Englishman’s solid performances at Camp Nou over the course of the season, the Blaugrana’s financial issues threaten to derail the deal.

Barcelona are struggling to justify signing Rashford due to his large wages, given that they urgently need to add to their ranks both at centre-forward, where Robert Lewandowski is set to leave as a free agent, and in the middle of their defence.

With United apparently unwilling to renegotiate the terms of the agreement, especially with Tottenham and Aston Villa holding an interest in the 28-year-old, it will be up to the player to show the Catalans that he is worth the money.

Rashford impresses on the right

Rashford went some way in doing this in Saturday’s LaLiga 2-1 win against Osasuna, Mundo Deportivo reports.

Although Fermin Lopez was preferred to him on the left wing, Rashford showed he has another string to his bow when he came on to replace Roony Bardghji for the final 30 minutes on the right.

He was decisive in creating the opening goal for Lewandowski with nine minutes remaining, and this is prompting the Blaugrana to consider him as an alternative option to Lamine Yamal on the right.

It was a display that evoked memories of his performance for Manchester United in a 2-2 draw with Barcelona during the 2022/23 season, when he provoked the equalising goal with a strong surge down that flank.

Rashford is now expected to be a serious candidate to start in that position against Barcelona in next weekend’s Clasico, with Bardghji having struggled to make an impression in that role against Osasuna.

Frenkie de Jong explained what Rashford gives Barcelona that others in the squad can’t.

Speaking to the Guardian, the Netherlands star said: “With his speed and depth, he really adds a lot to our game. And by doing so, he also forces the opponent’s defence to drop back a bit, which creates more space for us in the middle,”

How Rashford can secure Barca move

It appears that Rashford’s best chance of securing the permanent move to Barcelona that he craves is to show that he is an effective backup option across the forward line.

His ability to play off the left and through the middle is already well known, but if Barca can be convinced of his capabilities on the right, they may start to see him as a priceless option due to this versatility.

El Clasico could, therefore, be decisive for Rashford if he gets his chance on the right.
