Former Super Eagles’ captain, Ahmed Musa has found a rare piece of history coming his way, as he has been rated as Africa’s third overall highest goals scorer in the FIFA World Cup record books, Sports247 reports.

Although Nigeria will not be at the Mundial for the third straight edition running and Musa is no longer a member of the squad, despite not officially retiring from the team, his place in World Cup history is assured.
That follows his feat of two goals apiece in the 2014 and 2018 editions of the global soccer showpiece – first against Argentina in Brazil and then versus Iceland in Russia – thereby giving him a total of four sizzlers overall.
Musa’s haul of four World Cup goals falls only behind six by Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan across three editions (2006, 2010, 2014) and five for Cameroon’s Roger Milla (1990, 1994); while Samuel Eto’O is fourth with only three to his name.
A survey by Ordem Mateus of BeSoccer noted in part, “Ahmed Musa has been a clinical force for Nigeria, netting four goals in World Cup play. He (first) made his mark in 2014 with a stunning brace against Argentina.
“(He then) repeated the feat in 2018 with two decisive strikes against Iceland. His explosive pace and finishing ability proved vital during the Super Eagles’ most high-pressure moments.”
