British billionaire Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah died after the Bayesian superyacht they were on sank off the coast of Sicily back in August 2024
An investigation into the Bayesian superyacht sinking that killed seven people, including a billionaire, found the deadly capsizing was reportedly not caused by a storm.
The boat, owned by British billionaire Mike Lynch, sank off the coast of Sicily during a storm back in August 2024. Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah were among the victims of the deadly sinking.
Prosecutors in Italy later appointed experts to determine whether the storm could have caused the superyacht to sink. Findings reportedly stated the storm was “little more than a squall, a sudden increase in wind speed that precedes thunderstorms and downpours” that should have been a manageable situation for the crew.

Preliminary finding said the yacht in fact sank due to improper actions carried out by crewmembers, reports Sky News. Italian prosecutors are now considering whether alleged crimes of negligent shipwreck and multiple counts of manslaughter against the captain and two crew members should be opened.
Prosecutors have also raised the possibility that liability lies with the builder of the superyacht. The Bayesian sank near Palermo at about 5am on August 19 that year.
