Former NFL quarterback shocks fans by retiring from football at just 31

Former NFL quarterback P.J. Walker has announced his retirement from football at the age of just 31. 

The signal caller called it time on his career on the field following nine years of playing professionally.

He had been playing in the Canadian Football League for the Calgary Stampeders, with the team announcing his decision to hang up his cleats on Thursday. 

Walker’s career began with the Indianapolis Colts after he signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2017 NFL Draft. 

However, he never suited up for a game for the Colts, instead spending time on their practice squad for three years. 

He later ended up in the XFL with the Houston Roughnecks in 2020, which ultimately opened the door to a return to the NFL.

Walker, who had played college football at Temple, signed with the Carolina Panthers and eventually made his long-awaited NFL debut. 

After serving as a backup again in 2021, Walker started five games for Carolina in 2022 before leaving in free agency. 

He bounced around the league with stints with the Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, and Seattle Seahawks. 

He went 185-of-339 for 2,135 yards, six touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 21 overall NFL appearances. 

Walker joined Calgary in 2024 after he was released by the Seahawks, spending the past two years with the Stampeders as a backup.
