VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller is fielding interest from various elite clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United.
The Germany international has been one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga since joining Stuttgart in 2023. Under Sebastian Hoeness’ guidance, Stiller has taken his game to another level, so much so that he was billed as the heir to Toni Kroos when Real Madrid showed an interest in him in 2024.
That transfer did not materialise, nor did Stiller move last year. Fresh off winning the DFB-Pokal with Stuttgart, the 25-year-old wanted to stay with the Bundesliga outfit for another season. It was a good decision, as Stuttgart will retain their title if they can manage to beat Bayern in the final.
The Swabians are also on course to qualify for the Champions League, although fighting on multiple fronts has taken its toll on the team in recent weeks. They have only won one of their last four Bundesliga games.
Stiller has been instrumental in the club’s resurgence under Hoeness over the past few years, going from relegation battlers to regular European participants, cup winners and Bundesliga runners-up in 2024.
Stiller battle erupts
With the summer transfer window slowly but surely approaching, Stiller’s future is starting to come into focus. A few weeks ago, when celebrity Man Utd fan Luke Littler called for the signing of the midfielder during an event in Berlin, the situation was still relatively quiet.
Now, however, a potential transfer is starting to pick up steam. It is fully expected that Stiller will take the next step in his career this summer, and clubs are queuing up for him, BILD reports.
Man Utd, who have been following the German for years, are still in the mix as they look to revamp their midfield. Chelsea are now interested too, the tabloid states. Long-time admirers Real Madrid remain involved as well.
Meanwhile, fresh interest is emerging from Italy. The German publication has confirmed reports from the peninsula that Juventus have made Stiller a priority target for the summer. However, there has been no contact between the two clubs at this point.
Stuttgart ultimately hold all the cards. Stiller has a €40 million release clause, but the club can remove it in exchange for a €2m compensation fee. Naturally, the club will make use of this to get more value out of Stiller.
Currently, it is believed that the 25-year-old could fetch a fee in the region of €45m. However, it is noted that his price could increase should he make Germany’s World Cup squad, which isn’t yet guaranteed, bizarrely.
Despite being so eminently important, Stiller was initially snubbed by Julian Nagelsmann during the last international break, only to then end up not just playing but even starting after belatedly joining the team as an injury replacement.
Analysis: Stiller would thrive in Spain and Italy
According to data analytics firm SciSports, Stiller would be an ideal fit for clubs in Spain and Italy. SciSports’ Career Advice tool can give us an indication which clubs would suit the midfielder by analysing development prospects, playing style and expected game time.
Atletico Madrid are Stiller’s top option with a very good rating of 86 out of 100. They are followed by Napoli and, intriguingly, Juventus, who are actually trying to sign him.
Man City and Real Madrid would also be excellent stylistic fits, although SciSports is not convinced that Stiller would become a guaranteed starter at either club. Man Utd, meanwhile, clock in with a solid rating of 74.
