Liverpool have been told to sign Michael Olise from Bayern Munich “at all costs” following the winger’s sparkling display against PSG in the Champions League, but how much will it take to force the Bundesliga champions to sell?
Olise was one of the standout attacking players in an all-time classic at Parc des Princes, which finished 5-4 to PSG.
The France winger was on target for Bayern and was praised for the manner in which he tested Nuno Mendes in a one-on-one battle that he got the better of.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a summer move for Olise, with the former Crystal Palace man considered to be their dream option on the left wing due to a campaign in which he has scored 20 and created 29 more.
Olise to Liverpool ‘at all costs’ – Jermaine Pennant
Jermaine Pennant has backed that stance up, telling the Reds to pay whatever it costs to sign the 24-year-old.
Taking to X, he said: “Liverpool go out and get Olise right now, at all costs. There is your replacement for Mo Salah. AT ALL COSTS. Any amount plus Cody Gakpo.”
How much is Olise worth?
Olise is the third most-valuable player in the world, according to FootballTransfers’ algorithm, which uses in-game data points as well as thousands of historical transfers, to value each player across the world.
The Bayern star is worth a staggering €141 million, putting him behind only Lamine Yamal (€166m) and Erling Haaland (€145m) as the most expensive player in the game.
The bad news for Liverpool is that Uli Hoeness, Bayern’s honorary president, has said that €200m will not be enough to make them sell Olise.
Speaking last weekend, he said: “Liverpool spent 500 million this year and are having a very bad season. So we won’t be contributing to them playing better next year.
“We play this game for our fans. We have 430,000 members, we have many millions of fans around the world, and it does them little good if we have €200m more in the bank and play worse football every Saturday because of that.”
Michael Olise to Liverpool: Bundesliga expert gives his verdict
Bundesliga expert Ronan Murphy says there is no chance of Olise leaving Bayern leaving Liverpool at this point in his career.
“Every player in the world has a price. That’s what the Estimated Transfer Value is after all. Michael Olise has been one of the most valuable players in the world for all of 2026 and if he keeps playing like this, he might become number one, overtaking Lamine Yamal. But just because he has an Estimated Transfer Value doesn’t mean that Bayern Munich would accept that amount or any amount for him.
“He’s being linked with Liverpool because they want to replace Mohamed Salah with the best winger in the world. But the connection is ridiculous. Why would he leave a team on the cusp of another historic treble for one in transition, in turmoil, who don’t even have full faith in their head coach?
“Jermaine Pennant’s suggestion is because there’s a narrative that the Premier League is better. Maybe if you’re in a team competing for the title and contesting in the latter stages of the Champions League. But Olise already has that. And now he has legitimate Ballon d’Or candidacy too.
“So what can Liverpool offer on the field that Bayern can’t? Nothing. What can they offer off the field? A lot of money.
“But how much would Bayern be willing to sell for? €223m to make him the most expensive player ever? €700m? One billion? There’s no price Uli Hoeness and Bayern Munich would accept for Olise. This is a team who are among the most business savvy in the world, having made a profit in each of the last 32 seasons. They’re as good at making money as they are at winning the Bundesliga. The challenge for them is the Champions League and they aren’t selling Olise because of that.
“Maybe put in a bid for Serge Gnabry instead, Richard Hughes, they might sell you him.”
