Manchester United and Liverpool could be hit with crushing news that could see them both miss out on their top transfer target this summer.

Both Premier League sides will be in the market for a new wide forward during the upcoming transfer window, with Liverpool looking to replace Mohamed Salah, while United are keen to sign a top-level left winger.

The duo’s search has led them both to Yan Diomande after his incredible debut season with RB Leipzig and the 19-year-old is believed to be the dream attacking target for both Liverpool and United.

With Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich also rumoured to hold a strong interest in Diomande, Leipzig are thought to have placed a price tag of €100 million on their breakout wonderkid.

However, reports in Germany are now claiming that Leipzig will aim to tie Diomande down to a new contract in order to keep the teenager at the club for another year, with any fresh deal set to contain a big salary bump and a release clause allowing him to leave next summer.

Diomande is believed to be open to such an arrangement if Leipzig qualify for the Champions League, although the club would still find it difficult to turn down a lucrative offer from a major European side this summer.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Diomande ready to reject Premier League interest and remain loyal to Leipzig

Diomande was signed from Leganes last summer after Leipzig paid his €20m release clause despite him only playing ten games for the Spanish side, having made his first team debut in March 2025.

The winger has spoken of his appreciation to Leipzig for the opportunity they have provided him and has not suggested he is in a rush to leave despite the interest emerging in him.

Diomande has had an incredible first season in Germany, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists in 30 Bundesliga matches, prompting a huge fight to sign him from almost every top club across the continent.

Fabrizio Romano also this week confirmed Leipzig’s intentions over trying to keep hold of Diomande, as well as detailing the interest in the forward.

“Diomande has a new agency since January, Roc Nation Sports, and discussions are ongoing with RB Leipzig over the possibility of extending his contract, including a release clause that could allow a sale in 2027,” Romano said. “However, Diomande will also decide based on the proposals arriving this summer.

“Liverpool continue to track the player closely. Their scouts have attended recent matches to follow his performances, and they appreciate his qualities. They are aware they are not alone in the race.

“From the Premier League, Bayern, and Paris Saint-Germain, there are several clubs interested. Diomande will certainly be an interesting case to follow in the summer transfer window. The key decision will be whether he signs a new contract with Leipzig, with a higher salary and a future release clause, or chooses to leave immediately.”
