The Seattle Seahawks have parted ways with star Cam Akers almost three months on from their Super Bowl victory.Â
The running back only joined the Seahawks last season, being signed to the practice squad last November following an injury to George Holani.Â
However, the veteran’s stint in Seattle has already come to an end with the franchise releasing him on Monday.Â
Akers played in three regular-season games for the Seahawks and in the NFC title game win over the Los Angeles Rams.Â
The 26-year-old returned two kicks for 54 yards in a 27-10 win over the Carolina Panthers in December.
Seattle went on to hoist the Lombardi Trophy with a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots.Â

Akers’ release comes after the Seahawks selected Jadarian Price in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday.
Price’s selection with the No. 32 overall pick last week meant that Seattle were left with seven running backs on their roster with Zach Charbonnet, Holani, Kenny McIntosh, Jacardia Wright and free agent signee Emanuel Wilson in addition to the rookie and Akers.
Akers’ departure frees up the spot for Price and leaves the Seahawks with 82 players on their roster. Â
While Price headlined Seattle’s draft class, the Seahawks filled other holes on their young and talented roster. They ended up with eight picks, thanks to trades with Pittsburgh, Cleveland, the New York Jets and Green Bay.
The Seahawks took safety Bud Clark of TCU in the second round. The versatile Clark played safety, nickel back and cornerback for the Horned Frogs and was twice named a second-team All-Big 12 selection.
