Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories ahead of this summer, including the latest on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Julian Alvarez and Yan Diomande.
Goalkeeper update
Several top clubs are expected to sign a new goalkeeper during the upcoming summer transfer window, as confirmed by Romano in his latest YouTube video.
“What I am understanding is that Tottenham will go for a new goalkeeper in the summer,” the transfer expert said.
“Guglielmo Vicario is expected to return to Italy, with Inter really interested in the Italian goalkeeper. So Vicario is expected to leave Tottenham. We have to see whether they remain in the Premier League or face relegation to understand which goalkeeper they will target.”
Romano continued: “But another situation to follow is that of Alisson Becker, the Liverpool goalkeeper. Why? Because Juventus have already made a serious approach to Alisson and his camp over a potential long-term contract.
“Long-term does not necessarily mean five years, but my understanding is that Juventus would be ready to offer a two plus one year contract – two years plus one as an option – or potentially discuss a three-year deal with Alisson. These options are being explored, and it would represent an important contract for the player.
“At the same time, Liverpool activated a few weeks ago the option to extend his current deal at Anfield until 2027. So on one side, Alisson has an additional year on his contract at Liverpool. On the other, Juventus are prepared to offer two plus one or even three years to the Brazilian goalkeeper.”
Alisson has been at Liverpool since 2018, but Romano has confirmed that he is open to leaving the club in order to join Juventus.
“From my understanding, Alisson would be tempted by the possibility of returning to Italy and starting a new chapter after his fantastic spell at AS Roma, working again with the same coach now at Juventus, Luciano Spalletti. So this is an opportunity that appeals to him,” he admitted.
“However, Alisson does not want to leave Liverpool in a negative way. He wants to show respect to the club. He loves Liverpool and will not depart on bad terms.
“So now it is up to Liverpool to decide between now and the end of the season. They need to communicate with Alisson, discuss their plans, and determine whether they want to keep him, sell him, or potentially open the door under certain conditions. Juventus’ possible offer will also be a factor.
“There are several points to clarify in order to understand Alisson’s future. At the moment, it depends on Liverpool. They extended his contract because they believe in him, and they are already set to lose two important leaders, Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson. Losing Alisson in the same summer would be a significant challenge, and this will be discussed internally before a final decision is made.”
Interest in Yan Diomande
RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is one of the hottest prospects in Europe and a bidding war is likely to take place when the summer window opens in June.
“Paris Saint-Germain are interested, FC Bayern Munich are interested, and Liverpool remain keen on the player,” Romano said. “Several clubs are calling. Diomande has a new agency since January, Roc Nation Sports, and discussions are ongoing with RB Leipzig over the possibility of extending his contract, including a release clause that could allow a sale in 2027.
“However, Diomande will also decide based on the proposals arriving this summer. Liverpool continue to track the player closely. Their scouts have attended recent matches to follow his performances, and they appreciate his qualities. They are aware they are not alone in the race.
“From the Premier League, Bayern, and Paris Saint-Germain, there are several clubs interested. Diomande will certainly be an interesting case to follow in the summer transfer window. The key decision will be whether he signs a new contract with Leipzig, with a higher salary and a future release clause, or chooses to leave immediately.”
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia situation at PSG
PSG superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been linked with a sensational summer transfer amid reported interest from Arsenal, but Romano has poured cold water on such speculative rumours.
“Another recurring link in the media concerns Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. I already played down these stories in March and I continue to do so now. There have been rumours involving Premier League clubs, including Arsenal,” Romano said.
“I have always said that Kvaratskhelia only joined Paris Saint-Germain in January 2025. He has spent just over a year at the club, which is not a long period. He is very happy at PSG.
“Recent comments from his family confirm his intention to stay. He wants to continue at Paris Saint-Germain, competing for the biggest trophies and performing at a high level. There are no plans to leave.
“From my understanding, PSG also have no intention of negotiating his departure this summer. Despite the rumours, the situation remains completely quiet.”
Julian Alvarez latest
Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is wanted by several top European clubs, including Arsenal and Barcelona, but a final decision will not be made until after this season.
“Moving to Spain, one key situation involves Julian Alvarez,” Romano revealed. “Speaking ahead of a major Champions League clash against Arsenal, he addressed the ongoing rumours linking him with FC Barcelona.
“There have been reports about his family searching for a house in Barcelona and speculation about negotiations between clubs. These rumours appear daily. Alvarez responded by saying he cannot continue denying every report in the press and remains fully focused on Atletico Madrid.
“As I mentioned previously, Alvarez will not make any final decision about his future before the end of the Champions League campaign. He is fully committed to the competition and believes Atletico Madrid can fight for the title or at least reach the final and achieve something historic.
“For now, all options remain open for his future. I am not aware of any concrete negotiations over a new contract despite earlier reports. This is not a situation that will be resolved immediately, as Alvarez wants to concentrate on the pitch and show respect to Atletico Madrid during a crucial period.”
Real Madrid next manager
Finally, Romano revealed that Florentino Perez holds all the power in Real Madrid’s pursuit of a new head coach.
“I can confirm reports from Spain, including those from El Mundo, regarding Florentino Perez and the next manager of Real Madrid CF,” the transfer expert said.
“Florentino Perez will personally evaluate all available options for the managerial position. He will seek advice, but the final decision will rest with him. He will take full control of the process and be heavily involved in determining who will become the next Real Madrid manager.”
