Former Nigeria international Taiwo Oloyede has spoken against aggressive efforts to recruit diaspora players for the Super Eagles, insisting that only those fully committed to representing Nigeria should be invited.

Speaking on the growing trend of convincing foreign-born players to switch allegiance, Oloyede made his position clear.
“We shouldn’t force anyone,” he said.
According to him, national team selection should be based on genuine desire and commitment, not persuasion or pressure.
“They must want it,” he implied.
Oloyede argued that representing Nigeria is a privilege that should come with pride and willingness, rather than being seen as an alternative option for players unsure of their international future.
“It’s an honour,” he noted.
He warned that pushing too hard to attract players could send the wrong message and undermine the value of the national team jersey.
“We shouldn’t beg,” he stressed.
For the former international, the focus should instead be on players who are eager and ready to give their all for the country.
“Only committed players,” he added.
His comments add to the ongoing debate about the role of diaspora players in Nigerian football, with differing opinions on how best to balance foreign-based talent and local development.
As the Super Eagles continue their rebuilding process, decisions around player recruitment remain a key issue.
For Oloyede, the message is simple.
Desire matters.
Commitment matters more.
Because in football, wearing the national colours should never be a second choice.
