Augustine IfeanyiChukwu, Vice President of Lagos State All Stars, has called for perspective and sportsmanship following his team’s 6-0 defeat to Island All Stars in a friendly encounter at the Lagos Business School, Lagos.

Speaking with Sports247 after the match, IfeanyiChukwu emphasized that the essence of veterans’ football goes beyond competition, stressing enjoyment, unity, and respect for the game.
“First thing first, our game is fair play. We are no longer active footballers. We play to the rules of the game. We are not here for trophies but to enjoy,” he said.
Despite the heavy scoreline, he singled out the team’s goalkeeper for praise, noting his impressive performance between the posts.
The shot-stopper produced several crucial saves, preventing an even wider margin of defeat. “I wasn’t surprised; he has been doing it.
I even expect more from him,” IfeanyiChukwu added, expressing confidence in the goalkeeper’s consistency.
The match, while one-sided in terms of goals, was played in a disciplined and respectful manner, reflecting the spirit of All Stars football.
Both teams demonstrated composure and sportsmanship on and off the pitch, a quality IfeanyiChukwu attributes to the strong bond within the group.
“The most important thing holding us together is love. Our slogan is ‘All Stars – Team Work.’ We care for each other,” he explained, highlighting the unity that defines the team’s identity.
Looking ahead, Lagos State All Stars are set for a return leg, where they hope to deliver a stronger performance. IfeanyiChukwu acknowledged the need for improvement while maintaining optimism about their response.
“We will stage a comeback from the humiliation and work towards every area in need,” he stated.
