Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey has played down rumours of a summer move to Chelsea following reported interest from the west London giants.
The Netherlands international moved to the Stadium of the Light from Ajax for a fee of €20 million last year, despite an underwhelming final campaign in the Eredivisie, and he has endured an eye-catching debut season under Regis Le Bris.
Brobbey has netted six goals in 27 Premier League appearances so far this season and his elite hold-up play has helped Sunderland establish themselves as European challengers in their first campaign back in the top flight since 2016-17.
The Dutchman still has three years remaining on his deal with the Black Cats and FootballTransfers understands they will demand a club-record fee of €40m to sanction a sale during the upcoming summer window.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are understood to be keeping close tabs on Brobbey’s development ahead of a potential swoop this summer, with Vincent Kompany’s side recently confirming they will not sign Nicolas Jackson on a permanent deal when his loan deal expires at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Simon Phillips has revealed that Chelsea are also interested in landing the Sunderland striker as they look to secure the signing of a suitable replacement for Liam Delap.
The Englishman has only scored one goal in 25 Premier League games so far this season and although a deal has already been finalised for Strasbourg striker Emmanuel Emegha, Chelsea remain in the market for another new centre forward this summer.

Official: Brian Brobbey issues transfer response
Although Chelsea and Bayern are reportedly eager to agree a deal to sign Brobbey this summer, the Sunderland forward insists he is yet to be informed of official interest from either club.
Speaking to ViaPlay last week, the Dutchman admitted (as per Sunderland Echo): “It is always nice when such a big club shows interest, but I haven’t heard anything myself. So, I don’t know.”
When asked if a move to Germany would be appealing, Brobbey then added: “I don’t know. I’m not thinking about that right now.”
At just 24 years old, Brobbey is set to enter his prime over the next few seasons and he will undoubtedly be the subject of increased transfer speculation ahead of this summer if he enjoys a successful end to the 2025-26 campaign and an impressive World Cup with the Netherlands.
