Rashford set for Man Utd return
Marcus Rashford’s hopes of a permanent move to Barcelona are hanging by a thread, with the forward now on course to be making an unwanted return to Manchester United at the end of the season.
Rashford has been on loan at Barca this season and it was widely expected that the La Liga giants would take up their €30 million option to buy him permanently after initially impressing the club with his performances.
However, the 28-year-old has since seen a decline in his form which has seen him score just two goals in his last 11 appearances in what was billed as a ‘decisive’ run of fixtures that would determine his future.
The situation has led The Athletic to confirm that Barca have now ‘cooled’ their interest in Rashford, with the an ‘erratic’ display in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid ‘doing him no favours’.
Club sources are said to believe that Rashford had a ‘golden chance’ to make his mark following Raphinha’s recent injury but, as things stand, Barca do not intend to trigger the buy option in his loan and the England star is now set to return to Old Trafford this summer.
Pogba suggests Mainoo should leave Man Utd
Paul Pogba has suggested that Kobbie Mainoo may have to leave Manchester United for the good of his career, with doubts continuing to emerge over the midfielder’s future.
Mainoo is yet to sign a new contract with United, with his current deal ending next summer, although the club have an option to extend it for one year and are in talks over a renewal.
“It’s difficult. It’s really difficult,” Pogba said on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast. “It’s the way how he feels. If he feels that, if he’s good with the manager, if the manager really trusts him, because he’s going to have all the clubs behind him, this is for sure.
“But I don’t know about his contract, because if he will be a free agent, it will be a different story, I think. But, you know, a kid like this, you know, that thinks that he can play and other people think that he can play, his managers pushing him, telling him, you can play in this team, why you don’t play. That also put this in this kid and he’s like, yeah, I should leave.
“Maybe it’s not the right decision. And it’s really hard for me to say he should leave when he’s so loved by the people at United. He’s such a great player, a big potential and he can do a great career at Manchester United also. So, I don’t know, but I just wish him the best.”
Tchouameni interest confirmed
Manchester United’s interest in Aurelien Tchouameni has been confirmed by a number of high-reputation outlets, suggesting that a move will be made for the Real Madrid star this summer.
United are keen to sign two midfielders this summer and Tchouameni has emerged as a target with Madrid themselves looking to add quality in the middle of the park.
The BBC are among the outlets to have confirmed previous reports of the interest in Tchouameni, although Real are hoping to deter interest in the Frenchman by renewing his contract.
However, Real could be open to a sizeable bid for Tchouameni, with the 26-year-old’s contract set to expire in two years.
PSG give Bruno Fernandes cause for concern
Manchester United are still fighting for the future of Bruno Fernandes, but PSG are hoping to deal the Old Trafford side a blow in this regard.
Bruno has hinted that he is ready to stay at United beyond the summer, but the club will have to show ambition in the transfer window.
He has previously recommended that the Red Devils sign West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, but reports from France “confirm” that Champions League winners PSG have already made “contact” with the former Southampton man over a summer switch.
If they fail to put a good bid on the table for a player that Bruno has recommended, though, it will not send a positive message to their captain.
In the very worst case scenario, the Manchester side will miss out on Mateus Fernandes and could also see his namesake leave the club.
Man Utd make managerial decision over Carrick replacements
Michael Carrick is in a strong position to become Manchester United’s next manager with the news that the Old Trafford side have ruled out four potential alternatives to the interim boss.
Carrick has steered United to the cusp of Champions League football during his interim period in charge of the Red Devils and the 44-year-old is understood to be the favourite for the job on a permanent basis.
This has been strengthened with the news that Man Utd have “effectively ruled out” the prospect of appointing a manager who is involved in the World Cup, the Daily Mail reports, due to the tournament ending on 19 July when the club’s pre-season will be in full swing.
Thomas Tuchel, Carlo Ancelotti, Mauricio Pochettino and Julian Nagelsmann, who all of whom had been linked with the post, are therefore unlikely to be considered any further for the job.
