Galatasaray are set to launch an audacious approach for Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.
The Portugal international has been in the news a lot in recent months. On the pitch, Fernandes has been irresistible as Man Utd have managed to steady the ship after Ruben Amorim’s disastrous tenure.
However, his future has been mired in uncertainty. In late 2025, Fernandes caused a stir when he accused high-ranking INEOS figures of trying to push him out of the club.
Heading into the summer, it is still not entirely clear what Fernandes will do. While it is generally believed that he is keen to stay and play Champions League football with Man Utd, he does have rich suitors who are willing to break the bank for him.
Saudi clubs, in particular, are desperate to snap up Fernandes. The playmaker has received lucrative offers from the Kingdom every year since the Pro League launched its transfer offensive in 2023. To date, though, he has refused to move to the Middle East.
Fernandes to Galatasaray: Difficult, but not impossible
According to Takvim, Fernandes now has new suitors, though they are not totally unfamiliar. The Turkish outlet claims that Galatasaray have made the 31-year-old a transfer target.
The Istanbul giants previously showed an interest in him, but no move materialised at the time. Now, they are hopeful that they stand a better chance of signing the Man Utd superstar.
The move is driven by incumbent president Dursun Ozbek, who is gunning for re-election. In order to continue in charge of the club, Ozbek has promised a major makeover of the team and its management.
Galatasaray has dominated the Super Lig in recent years, but Ozbek is keen to restructure the club and swap out some senior figures. Successful manager Okan Buruk is on an expiring contract, and he could even leave.
However, Ozbek has reportedly informed Buruk that he intends to keep him, though there have not yet been any negotiations to extend his expiring contract.
On the transfers front, Ozbek is determined to make another splash after last summer’s record-breaking window, which saw Galatasaray spend close to €150 million on new recruits, including the shocking acquisition of Victor Osimhen for €75m.
Galatasaray are convinced that they can compete with Europe’s elite clubs in terms of revenues and that this allows them to spend big on transfer fees without jeopardising the club’s financial health.
It is this ambitious approach to the market that could give them a fighting chance of signing Fernandes. While a deal would be incredibly difficult and expensive, they showed last year that they can pay huge fees.
Another aspect is Champions League football. The fact that Galatasaray perennially play in Europe’s premier competition will make them more attractive to Fernandes than Saudi clubs, even if they can’t match the eye-watering salaries being paid in the Kingdom.
It remains to be seen if anything will indeed come of this, but Galatasaray are determined to give it a good try. They will “re-establish contact with the player during the summer transfer window” and try to convince him to move to the Bosporus.
