Frank Onyeka endured a tense night that almost overshadowed a historic achievement, as his mistake nearly delayed Coventry City’s long-awaited return to the Premier League.

Heading into the decisive clash at Ewood Park, Coventry needed just a point to secure promotion after 25 years away from the English top flight.
However, the game took a dramatic turn in the 54th minute when Onyeka’s attempted clearance went wrong.
The Nigerian midfielder failed to deal with a dangerous effort from Alebiosu, inadvertently pushing the ball into the path of Ryoya Morishita, who calmly slotted home to give Blackburn Rovers a 1-0 lead.
Sensing the danger, Coventry boss Frank Lampard reacted swiftly, substituting Onyeka for Victor Torp in the 63rd minute to inject attacking urgency into his side.
That tactical tweak proved decisive. With time running out, Coventry found their breakthrough in the 84th minute when Bobby Thomas powered home a header from Torp’s well-delivered free-kick, restoring parity at 1-1.
The equalizer was enough.
The final whistle confirmed Coventry’s promotion, taking them to 86 points and sealing a top-two finish in the EFL Championship.
It marked the end of a 25-year absence from the Premier League, despite the earlier scare sparked by Onyeka’s error.
To his credit, Onyeka has been instrumental in Coventry’s promotion push since joining on loan from Brentford in January.
