Tony Unuavworho has admitted that a measure of luck contributed to his triumph at the 2026 Africa Re Golf Tournament for CEOs, following a tightly contested outing at the prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938.

Unuavworho emerged champion with an impressive 38 stableford points, finishing two points ahead of Ancy Okoebor, who returned 36 points.
Obinna Okwoji also carded 36 points but settled for third place on countback.
Reflecting on his victory, the champion expressed gratitude to the organisers while acknowledging that fortune played a role alongside preparation.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank Africa Reinsurance Corporation, the sponsor of this tournament. I wish them well and pray that they continue to be successful,” Unuavworho said, adding that luck also contributed to his win.
The third edition of the tournament formed part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Africa Reinsurance Corporation, attracting top executives and golf enthusiasts from across the corporate landscape.
Speaking on the event, Regional Director for Anglophone West Africa, Temitope Akinowa, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to sports development and economic growth across Africa.
“We are very happy with this third edition because it coincides with our 50th anniversary celebrations. We have been around for 50 years, we have been very strong and we have been supporting the economy of Africa despite the challenges,” Akinowa noted.
In other categories, Olaide Adekoya, Yetunde Ojo, and Ifeoma Obata claimed top honours in the ladies’ stableford division. Segun Adekoya won the men’s longest drive prize, while Annie Eimiakhene secured the ladies’ longest drive award.
Ademola Osindero clinched the nearest-to-the-pin prize on hole 11, with Yetunde Ojo also emerging best in the ladies’ category for the same event.
In the team competition, Davisther Brokers Ltd topped the insurance category with 65 stableford points, narrowly edging Joken Insurance Brokers, who finished second with 64 points.
The Africa Re Golf Tournament continues to grow in profile, blending competitive sport with corporate networking, as stakeholders celebrate both athletic excellence and key industry milestones.
