Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed known as Kuadri Lyamid was rushed to hospital after losing consciousness following a frightening head injury during Sabadell’s Spanish second-division encounter against Albacete.
According to a report gathered by Sports247, the match was interrupted for several minutes as medical personnel provided emergency treatment to the injured midfielder before he was taken away by ambulance for further medical examinations.
The incident occurred in the 40th minute when Lyamid was struck on the head by a powerful kick from Albacete player Jose Corpas. The challenge, reportedly unintentional, left the Nigerian motionless on the pitch, prompting immediate concern from players, officials and medical staff.
The referee subsequently showed Corpas a straight red card for the challenge, while medical personnel rushed onto the field to attend to Lyamid.
The midfielder eventually regained consciousness after receiving urgent treatment. However, due to the seriousness of the incident, he was transported to hospital for further assessment and monitoring.
Play resumed several minutes later, with Albacete holding on to their advantage despite Sabadell’s efforts to get back into the contest.
Albacete had established a two-goal lead before Inigo Aguilar reduced the deficit for Sabadell in the 81st minute. The hosts, however, resisted the late pressure, with their goalkeeper making important saves to preserve the victory.
Following the encounter, Sabadell confirmed that Lyamid remained under medical observation but offered encouraging news about his initial medical examinations.
The Spanish club did not disclose further details about the midfielder’s condition, stressing the need for continued medical assessment.
His recovery and possible return to action will depend on the outcome of further examinations and medical advice.
The incident has raised concern over player safety and the importance of prompt medical intervention when serious head injuries occur during competitive football.
