Nigeria’s Favour Ojo has been eliminated from the Youth Olympic Games table tennis competition after suffering two defeats in her matches against Czech Republic’s Hanka Kodet and Egypt’s Yara Elbadawy.

Ojo first faced Kodet but was unable to overcome the Czech Republic player, who secured a 3-1 victory to hand the Nigerian an early setback.

She returned to action later in the day against Egypt’s Elbadawy, with victory needed to keep her hopes of progressing alive. However, the Egyptian also proved too strong, recording another 3-1 win to confirm Ojo’s elimination.

The back-to-back defeats marked a disappointing conclusion to the Nigerian’s participation, particularly after the expectations surrounding her appearance at the international youth competition.

Ojo was visibly unhappy with her performance following the second defeat, reflecting the disappointment of missing out on the opportunity to advance further in the tournament.

Despite the setback, the experience offers the young Nigerian an opportunity to assess her performance, identify areas for improvement and return stronger in future international competitions.

Competing against players from different countries at a major multi-sport event provides valuable exposure, while the lessons from difficult matches can contribute to long-term development.

For Ojo, the immediate challenge will be to learn from the experience, rebuild her confidence and channel the disappointment into preparation for future competitions.
