NFF Celebrates Iwobi on Premier League Appearance Milestone

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has congratulated Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi after he reached a new milestone in the English Premier League.

Iwobi has made 328 appearances in the English top flight, making him the joint-second most-capped African player in the competition alongside Egyptian star Mohamed Salah.

The 30-year-old reached the milestone while playing for Fulham in their 1-0 victory over Coventry City on Saturday.

The NFF Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme MON, praised Iwobi for his achievement and wished him greater success.

“The NFF celebrates Alex Iwobi for this new achievement and we wish him even greater glory. We will be very happy to see him become the African with the most appearances in the Premier League in the near future,” Ikpeme said.

Iwobi is now 25 appearances away from equalling the record held by former Ivory Coast defender Kolo Toure, who made 353 appearances in the Premier League.

The Nigerian midfielder also reached 100 appearances for the Super Eagles during a friendly match against Portugal this summer at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, Portugal.

He has won one silver and two bronze medals with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In Saturday’s match against Coventry City, Iwobi played for 73 minutes, recorded 60 touches and completed 51 passes with an accuracy of 86.3 per cent.

His latest achievement adds to his growing record in English football as he continues to play an important role for Fulham and the Super Eagles.
