Deion Sanders is edging ever closer to the chop at Colorado after a blowout loss to Oklahoma State marked the fifth straight defeat for his struggling Buffaloes.
Coach Prime became a high-profile hire in Boulder for the 2023 season and immediately turned the program from a 4-8 losing record to an improved 9-4 team, with his son Shedeur at quarterback.
The last three seasons have been a struggle though, with Colorado now 2-5 for the season and fans calling for the Deion experiment to come to an end immediately.
Sanders didn’t appear to help himself in his postgame comments in Stillwater on Saturday night, admitting he wasn’t sure why his players were struggling so much.
‘We’re so disciplined in this and that, and this and that, and every darn thing we do, but it seems like as soon as we go in the field, we’re not disciplined,’ he told reporters.
‘I really don’t understand it, because we are disciplined in every area of this program, when it comes to academics, when it comes to being somewhere on time, when it comes to wearing the proper uniform, when it comes to just your manners in the building. Everything. But [when] we get on the field at the most critical moments, we blow it.’

On social media, fans tore into Sanders and urged the front office to fire him, with one writing: ‘Pack your bags, it’s time you get out of Boulder Colorado. Thanks for trying! Calling you “Coach Prime” is an insult to real college coaches. Time for the Buffs to find somebody committed to the program and not desperately chase a brand.’
Another added: ‘About a year ago I said the Buffs should fire Deion Sanders and a lot of people freaked out. It’s only gotten worse. Not only is CU a dumpster fire, they have become more embarrassing. The boosters need to find every penny possible & make up for Rick George’s horrendous mistake.’
In Saturday’s game, Drew Mestemaker threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns and Sam Keltner matched a program record with five field goals as Oklahoma State held Colorado to just 120 yards of offense.

‘I thought offensively we were in rhythm pretty much the whole entire game,’ Cowboys coach Eric Morris said. ‘I thought we were better in the red zone (in the second half). We took a lot of points when we got down there and Sam´s been awesome.’
‘Great game by OSU. Really, they did some wonderful things,’ Colorado coach Sanders added.
‘This stuff hurts, man. We’re going to try to mask it as much as possible, but this stuff hurts. Eleven penalties, 84 yards, it’s just totally undisciplined. Came out in the second half, were unable to produce points, were unable to stop the opposition. They did some phenomenal things.’
