Luton manager Jack Wilshere was embroiled in a furious melee at full-time in his side’s clash with Barnsley at Kenilworth Road.
Wilshere’s Luton beat Barnsley 2-1 on Tuesday night, with defender Mads Andersen scoring early on before Nahki Wells doubled the hosts’ lead before half-time.
Barnsley looked to be staging a comeback when Makenzie Kirk pulled a goal back after the break. Then, in the final minute, Amani Richards thought he had won a penalty only to be booked for diving by referee Carl Brook.
A relieved Wilshere headed across to the opposition dugout at full-time to shake hands with Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel, only for Stendel to appear to pull his arm away.
Wilshere reacted furiously, pointing at Stendel as members of the Barnsley backroom staff attempted to break up the fracas.
It didn’t end there, though, as Luton players rushed to join in. They continued arguing with the Barnsley staff and players after Wilshere walked away.

‘They want to win, we want to win,’ Wilshere told the BBC after the match. ‘I have massive respect for them and what they’re trying to do.
‘I know they haven’t got the results, but I can see what they’re trying to do and they’re a tough team to play because they’ve got some good players.
‘We got the win in the end and it got a bit heated, but we shake hands in the end and everyone moves on.
‘Sometimes you see how together we are. We’re all together. We’re respectful but sometimes as well it shows everyone that we are together, and a few players were in there as well. You want to be respectful but also to show togetherness.’
Stendel is under mounting pressure, with Barnsley 22nd in League One following a fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions. He also looked to downplay the incident with Wilshere in his post-match press conference.
‘It was a misunderstanding between me and Jack Wilshere,’ he said. ‘But I tried to talk with him (after the game) and I think it’s not a big thing.’
Luton’s victory brings them up to 13th in the third division after 10 games. Next up is 10th-placed Leicester City at home again on Saturday.
Wilshere is regarded as a bright coaching talent, having learnt his trade overseeing the development of Arsenal’s youth teams before taking the plunge in senior football.
He earnt plaudits earlier this season after his sweary half-time team talk inspired the Hatters to overturn a 3-1 deficit to beat Reading 4-3. Footage of the motivational speech went viral, with fans backing the former England star to enjoy a fruitful managerial career.

‘I could stand here and show you some clips, but the truth is boys, I must be going f****** crazy,’ Wilshere began in his speech.
‘I spent six f****** weeks telling you we drop points against counter-attacking teams. What happens on day one? We f****** concede three goals, three goals to give them a hat-trick, a f****** hat-trick lads.’
The former Arsenal and England midfielder continued: ‘Come on, please, we can f****** do what we want, but if we ain’t f****** there in duels, if we don’t land on second balls, it doesn’t matter. Be clean, please, be clean.
‘We do passing drill after passing drills where we go bang, bang, opposite side. It’s for now! It’s for now, lads. This is where it matters.
‘Lads, it’s still there for us. We can score two in f****** ten minutes and f****** kill them. But come on boys, let’s be f****** men about it. Let’s go.’
