Shocking moment unpatriotic high school football player slams into rival carrying an American flag on the field

A high school football player in Oregon has sparked widespread outrage after leveling an unsuspecting rival who was carrying an American flag onto the field.

The shocking confrontation unfolded on Friday night ahead of a local rivalry matchup between Grant High School and Jefferson High School in Portland.

Video footage circulating on social media showed Grant players sprinting onto the turf behind a teammate who was proudly waving a large American flag.

However, as the flag-bearer crossed the field, a Jefferson player sprinted over and barged into him, sending him crashing to the ground.

The sudden cheap shot ignited chaos on the field as a few Grant players quickly rushed toward the Jefferson instigator in defense of their teammate.

The viral clip prompted fierce backlash across social media, with fans and spectators demanding strict disciplinary action against the Jefferson player.

Taking to X, one fan wrote: ‘Whatever the rivalry, knocking down a kid carrying the American flag crosses a line, and the adults in charge need to address it’.

‘When I played HS ball, this kid would have been immediately ejected from the stadium with more punishment from his school to follow’, another wrote online.

Similarly, another account wrote: ‘Blindsiding a kid for carrying the flag onto the field is assault, not a football play’.

Adding to the controversy, a social media account – not officially associated with the school – claimed the altercation stemmed from a pregame scheduling dispute.

According to the account, Grant players had been asked to avoid crossing the center of the field during Jefferson’s senior night festivities.

The account insisted the violent confrontation was not intended as disrespect toward the US flag, but rather a reaction to being slighted on senior night.

Despite the pregame drama, the Grant Generals dominated on the field, cruising to a comfortable 35-14 victory over the Jefferson Democrats.

According to OutKick, the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA), the state school athletic governing body, said it ‘is aware of the pre-game incident’.

They also noted that the player was ejected and didn’t play in the game.

‘Rivalry game or not, there’s no place for this behavior before, during, or after an interscholastic contest,’ the OSAA added.
