Eberechi Eze faces an uncertain long-term future at Arsenal amid their pursuit of a new superstar left winger.
The England international joined Mikel Arteta’s side from Crystal Palace for €69.3 million last summer, but he has been unable to nail down a consistent place in the Gunners’ starting XI since his arrival in north London.
Club captain Martin Odegaard is regarded as the clear first-choice attacking midfielder by Arteta and while Eze was primarily signed as No.10, his most obvious pathway to regular minutes is as a left winger.
However, the 28-year-old endured a tough afternoon against Nottingham Forest on Sunday and after being hooked at half-time, his future at the Emirates Stadium has been called into serious question.
TEAMtalk claim there is “growing frustration” around Eze’s place in Arteta’s squad, and that he is seen as a “stopgap” option on the left flank amid Christos Tzolis’ muscle injury. In addition, with Myles Lewis-Skelly, Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Bruno Guimaraes and Mikel Merino all at Arteta’s disposal, there is no obvious route to minutes in midfield.
The England star doesn’t have a clear path into the Arsenal starting XI unless injuries occur and with the club set to prioritise the signing of a new left winger next year, amid interest in Kenan Yildiz and Kevin Schade, it’s understood that Eze faces an uncertain future in north London.
Who could Eberechi Eze join?
Data analytics experts SciSports believe that Inter Milan would be Eze’s ideal next club if he leaves Arsenal next year, while Manchester City also rank strongly in their ‘Club Fit’ model, despite the presence of Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden.
Newcastle United are seen as an excellent destination too, and Eze could seamlessly fit into Matthias Jaissle’s system as their No.10 if the Magpies are able to finalise a blockbuster deal.
However, it would likely take an offer in excess of his €74.2m Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) to tempt Arsenal into a sale next summer, even if Eze remains a squad player under Arteta. Whether he accepts that role, however, is a different story.
