NSC, NFF Deny Uwejamomere’s Appointment as Olympic Eagles Assistant Coach

The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have denied reports that Golden Eaglets coach Eboboritse Uwejamomere has been appointed assistant coach of Nigeria’s U-23 national team, the Olympic Eagles.

Senior officials of both organisations told BSN Sports that Uwejamomere has not been appointed to the technical crew of the Olympic Eagles.

The coach recently led the Golden Eaglets at the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Boys Tournament in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, where Nigeria failed to progress to the next stage.

A senior NSC official dismissed the reports, explaining that Uwejamomere remains involved in Nigerian football in other roles.

“There is no truth in that report,” the official said.

The official added that Uwejamomere has worked as a video analyst with the Super Eagles for the past four years and also served in the same role with the Super Falcons at the last Olympic Games.

An NFF official also said no decision had been made to add the Golden Eaglets coach to the Olympic Eagles’ technical crew.

“As far as we are concerned, nobody has proposed or appointed the Golden Eaglets coach to the U-23 Eagles team. We have a complete backroom staff ahead of the team’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign,” the official said.

The clarification comes ahead of Nigeria’s two-legged qualifying tie against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) for the 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria will travel to face DR Congo in the first leg on November 9, 2026, before hosting the return match on November 17.

The tournament will serve as Africa’s qualifying competition for men’s football at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.

The Olympic Eagles will be hoping to overcome DR Congo and secure a place in the continental tournament as they continue their bid to return to the Olympic Games.
